A cost efficient field evaluated tool kit for surveillance of tick-borne pathogens in Western Europe (TickTools)
The project will produce a combined tool kit consisting of a new microarray chip for detection of tick-borne viruses and an existing chip for detection of tick-borne bacteria and parasites, both equipped with a pooling strategy that can be adjusted to the resources available for diagnostic testing. The joint test and pooling strategy will be validated on ticks collected at nine sites along a transect in the partner countries, and the diagnostic performance quantified using novel digital PCR techniques. Finally, the tool kits potential for surveillance will be demonstrated by developing a predictive model driven by freely available satellite data.
