Hedgehog health

The hedgehog is found in the southern half of Sweden, as well as locally along the north-east coast. The total number of hedgehogs in the country is estimated to 30,000. Hedgehogs have decreased in number in recent years and are now considered a threat-ened species. There is a lack of knowledge regarding which infections and diseases oc-cur in Swedish hedgehogs, and how this might affect the population. By examining hedgehogs that are found dead or are euthanized due to disease, the knowledge may be increased.
