EU-JUMP

EU-JUMP (EU Joint action: United for Mosquito-borne disease Prevention and control) strengthens Europe’s capacity for prevention, detection and control of mosquito-borne arboviruses (MBAs) via a One Health approach integrating human, animal and environmental evidence. As climate change and mobility expand vector suitability and raise transmission risk, EU-JUMP harmonises entomological standards, integrates multisource data and runs multinational pilots to validate cost-effective integrated vector management. Eight work packages (WPs) cover: management/evaluation; sustainability/communication; surveillance/control; risk assessment, early warning; and capacity building. There are 4 technical WPs: WP5 sets minimum standards, maps systems and delivers an interoperable template plus a data integration proof of concept linking entomological, public health and environmental data, WP6 establishes insecticide resistance baselines, compares European practices and tests conventional and innovative tools (including male release) in trials, WP7 fuses surveillance, climate and mobility evidence to quantify introduction/transmission risk, produce risk maps and early warning indicators, and issue contingency guidance, and WP8 translates methods into practice through training, simulation exercises and after-action reviews, and issues guidance, including genomic surveillance for viruses and vectors. Public health policy is integral: EU-JUMP co-creates adoption pathways with health authorities, aligns outputs with EU frameworks, and provides an ownership matrix and interoperability tools. Throughout, the consortium emphasises data for action: standardised indicators, dashboards and decision workflows enable local managers to act promptly on comparable evidence. Expected results include comparable EU surveillance data, validated control options, risk-based early warning and sustained capacity—reducing outbreak risk and strengthening resilience to climate-sensitive vector threats. SVA's work will be mainly in WP5 and WP7.
