Identifiering av virus som orsakar smittsam cancer hos gädda (Esox lucius).

Viruses play a much larger role in animal health and disease than previously understood. In wild animals, including fish, many serious diseases are caused by viruses that are still poorly studied. This is especially true for wild fish species, which rarely can be monitored as closely as farmed fish populations. One striking example is a form of lymphosarcoma, a contagious cancer that affects northern pike (Esox lucius).

This project aims to identify and genetically describe the virus that causes lymphosarcoma in pike, using modern DNA sequencing and bioinformatics data analysis methods.
